From the people who brought you the original Action Camera, that
freed up your hands and let you grab life by the neck to wring out
every ounce of adrenaline pumping, life affirming, limit testing,
boundary pushing (you're getting the point) experience that life had to
offer, (deep breath) comes the latest in hands free digital camera
wizardry - the Action Cam ATC5K. Not only is it waterproof to 5 metres
and has a remote control, but it has the brilliant addition of a 1.5in
LCD screen, so you can see what you're filming and ensure you've set it
up for the perfect angle.
It only takes a quick glance to realise that this is a very
different camera indeed: the design has been rethought and, all over,
it's a much sleeker affair with all of the perks of the previous models
but this time it has an even wider lens so you can capture more of the
intense action while you live it. It even has a remote control so you
can attach the camera to an inanimate object of your choice (trees and
lampposts are our favourites) and then snap away at your leisure. You
can still attach it to your handlebars, helmet, arm, leg, the head of a
great white (if you're feeling particularly daring - no one we asked to
test it out ever got back to us, funnily enough) leaving your hands
free to steer your way through the dirt bike track or pull the ripcord
at the vital moment.
The camera also boasts an in-built SD card slot, allowing you to
boost the existing 32MB of on-board memory up to 4GB. With a 640x480
resolution, the picture quality isn?t too shabby either. You also have
the option of playing back your adventures on your PC or TV using the
cables provided. The ATC5K is water, dirt, rain, snow and shock proof
but the remote, unfortunately, is only water resistant so please
remember not to take the plunge without checking your pockets. So get
up that mountain and get filming so you can prove to your grandkids
that you didn't always live life from your favourite easy chair.
